Just bought it but can't run it yet as my PC *does* need an upgrade / replacement.

Anyone else got it? What's it like? What level of fabulousness are we talking about here?

I did acknowledge that my computer required an upgrade / replacement. I opted for number 2.

I'm currently typing this on my new Mac.

Well, TS3 so far is a bit of a disappointment tbh. Despite the seamless neighbourhood and significantly quicker loading times than TS2, it's still not enough of a radical departure from its predecessor, so perhaps it should just be called Sims 2.5?

Quite impressed with some features, such as the water textures and some of the new Sim interactions, but not so happy with the UI. The Build Mode UI is a bit too childish for me - we could all navigate the TS2 UI perfectly well, so why mess with it?

Create-a-Sim is pretty good, with the ability to customise the Sim more than ever before, but I have a problem with the very limited way in which adornments such as shoes can be matched to different outfits. Take for example this, my not-very-convincing DT Sim:

Sims 3 users? Anyone? David_10

I was able to add the red Converse to his everyday outfit (the brown pinstripe just looked wrong so I opted for the blue one) but when it came to adding the black Converse to his dinner jacket, it just wouldn't stay. Without using the cheats (some of which have changed, btw), there's no means of pairing them properly as they don't show up in Formal wear unless you set his everyday outfit as the DJ.

And we want better hair and stubble options, please!

Re building lots: this was really a let-down, as I'm the kind of simmer who plays the game to design and build houses more than interacting with the Sims themselves. I was disappointed by the inability to build lots before moving Sims into them. Or maybe there's a cheat I haven't spotted. This usually happens with Sims games until the first EP comes out, but I don't really want to wait that long. Also, some of the 'matching' wall textures weren't well matched for shades so they looked wrong on houses where I'd added quoining (I love that word) to the walls.

Thus continues the blog...

Found out through more gameplay how to build without having to create Sims first and built my first house for upload. Still getting to grips with the game, though. This is going to take some time...

ts3 is ok but i think the graphics are probably not as good on the mac, i reckon you need a good video card to make the mot of it.

Blimey, I didn't think anyone came on here anymore! Rolling Eyes

I take your point about the graphics card. The textures don't look so good up close unless I tweak the settings beyond what TS3 considers to be the optimum. Gameplay is a little slower but better to look at. I'm not playing TS3 very much but I did wander into it today just for about an hour. Somehow, it doesn't hold my attention the way TS2 did.
