Well, TS3 so far is a bit of a disappointment tbh. Despite the seamless neighbourhood and significantly quicker loading times than TS2, it's still not enough of a radical departure from its predecessor, so perhaps it should just be called Sims 2.5?
Quite impressed with some features, such as the water textures and some of the new Sim interactions, but not so happy with the UI. The Build Mode UI is a bit too childish for me - we could all navigate the TS2 UI perfectly well, so why mess with it?
Create-a-Sim is pretty good, with the ability to customise the Sim more than ever before, but I have a problem with the very limited way in which adornments such as shoes can be matched to different outfits. Take for example this, my not-very-convincing DT Sim:
I was able to add the red Converse to his everyday outfit (the brown pinstripe just looked wrong so I opted for the blue one) but when it came to adding the black Converse to his dinner jacket, it just wouldn't stay. Without using the cheats (some of which have changed, btw), there's no means of pairing them properly as they don't show up in Formal wear unless you set his everyday outfit as the DJ.
And we want better hair and stubble options, please!
Re building lots: this was really a let-down, as I'm the kind of simmer who plays the game to design and build houses more than interacting with the Sims themselves. I was disappointed by the inability to build lots before moving Sims into them. Or maybe there's a cheat I haven't spotted. This usually happens with Sims games until the first EP comes out, but I don't really want to wait that long. Also, some of the 'matching' wall textures weren't well matched for shades so they looked wrong on houses where I'd added quoining (I love that word) to the walls.
