Heh. Every single act that performed last night was better than Scooch. I was surprised by the Irish entry this year - it was a really nice song but the songer must have been pretty nervous. It really wasn't written for her to sing - it was too low - or if it was meant for her, the songwriter needs to find another job. The German one was pretty cool - loved the jazz angle. Wasn't crazy about the Turkish one. The singer seemed a bit slimy to me. And Belarus' song was just cheesy!

I'd hoped Ukraine would do well - that song is the epitome of all things Eurovision - but the Serbia song was quite good, even if the lead singer did look lke Velma from Scooby Doo! lol!

i'm not sure, but i think each country has their own commentator, though if up to me i would pass a law giving everyone in Europe have to listen to him Razz

20Eurovision Song Contest Empty Wogan may quit Eurovision role Sun May 25, 2008 2:36 pm

i know this topic should really be on the Euro topic, but after the years of work he put in to it, i think its only fitting to give this news its own topic Sad

Sir Terry Wogan said he may quit as the BBC's Eurovision commentator, as the UK entry sung by former X Factor finalist Andy Abraham finished in last place.

Sir Terry cast doubt on his role after saying this year's results showed it was "no longer a music contest".

Abraham received 14 points for his song Even If, as Russia won with 272 points.

Sir Terry, who has commentated on the competition since the 1970s, said: "Russia were going to be the political winners from the beginning."

Wogan can't leave - if he does, there'll be absolutely no point in watching Eurovision at all! Most Brits only watch it for his catty comments.

Tbh, I didn't even watch it last night. We were never going to win with all the political voting that's gone on for all these years. Some of this is the backlash over Iraq, I guess, but there is also the fact that our songs are never up to scratch. Looking at most Eurovision songs, that's really saying something. Hysterical

The Eurovision without Sir Tel? Unthinkable. Its true what he says though. They need a different system, perhaps there should be heats or split Europe into four and have four finals. I listened to it on the radio (with Ken Bruce commentating) he said more or less the same. I note ITV soon backed out of the Junior Eurovision because of the cost. Non of this years songs were any good. Bring back Verka Seduchka Thats what I say.

Ren.

Speaking of the cost, isn't it interesting how the UK always gets back into the competition even when we come last? Anything to with the *cough*vast quantities of funding*cough*?

I vote this as the next UK entry (even though it's nicked from Ireland, who nicked it from Norway)...

Finland. Yes.

Some interesting tweets au sujet de l'Eurovision here:

How she failed to mention the turquoise disco gimp of Albania beats me.

Graham Norton was quite a surprise. Better than I thought he'd be.
