Although I just ordered my copy of GHIII for the PC (Gibson Explorer Guitar, too, I believe Very Happy ), I did a quick hunt for different controllers to see if I could get a 2nd one cheaply and came across this...

Hmmm...OMG

And this guy made his out of Lego!

GHIII arrived on Wednesday - the box was all bashed about (Amazon... grrr...) and the game doesn't play on my XP machine (no matter) but it seems to be working.

How do I know that if the game won't load?

Easy.

I downloaded Frets On Fire (FREE!) instead and played it with my guitar controller. I'm getting better too (4 stars this morning!) and I can load in the GHIII songs.

Frets on Fire is designed for the keyboard so there are one or two hacks you'd need to make before plugging in the guitar controller. By the way, the XBox 360 and PC controllers are absolutely one and the same.

To play with the keyboard, just download Frets On Fire and play it as is.

To make it work with the XBox guitar, install JoyToKey and then look for the configured file from AltHack.com. Save this in the same folder as JoyToKey and leave it running.

It really works!

So you'd have the SG controller? What's it like size-wise? Apparently you can use it with Frets on Fire for the PC but you need an adaptor.

I can just about manage 5 frets, but being a guitarist, I'm used to a longer neck and wider spaces between frets. The Xplorer controller is a bit too small for me. I can only really play for about half an hour at a time or my left hand really starts to hurt.

I hear that the Easy mode in GH only uses the first three frets. Is that right? In Frets on Fire Easy mode uses the first 4 so it might be worth investigating.

I've downloaded some new tracks for FOF, including You Really Got Me by The Kinks and Going the Distance by Cake (one of my favourite songs when I was at uni). They use all 5 frets even in Easy mode. And we don't even mention Smooth Criminal. My word, no. Hysterical

size wise i would say its avarge, though i got to strum with my left arm, as i cant lift it up the neck far enough.

Developed a random problem with Guitar Hero III for the Wii...

My whammy bar sometimes doesn't register at all, and when I go to calibrate it, it just tells me it's already done.

Any thoughts? Is my controller kaput?

OK, it's not my controller. I bought Lego Rock Band and that works fine! Maybe there's just a fault with GHIII? Guitar
