I was always on the receiving end of the tricks so I tend to stay away from them. Sad

I'll still be off work, so I won't see them. They try the worst tricks every year. One kid annoyed me so much with his tricks that I called him over.

I went into calm, quiet, uber-polite teacher mode. You know, where the teacher isn't yelling but talking really quietly and with absolute self-control. There was lots of awkward pausing, just to let the silences take hold. That's the bit when the other kids will actually hush so they can hear who's on the receiving end.

I was very reasonable, very measured, with lots of eye contact. I explained that I had asked him to stop several times, told him he wasn't being funny anymore and that this was it. It was time for a detention, followed by a call to his parents. It was time for the head to be informed about him ignoring repeated requests to be sensible and follow the school's code of conduct. It was time to think about whether he would be playing football next week against our rival school, and what a shame that would be if he missed it, what a disappointment for him as well as the family members who were hoping to see him play centre forward, and what a waste of his very evident talents on the football field. He'd let me down, he'd let his friends down, he'd let himself down.

I let this sink in for a moment (he'd gone white by this time) and then said, "Good job I'm joking, isn't it?"

He couldn't say a word. I just said, "That's how it's done, Son." Twisted Evil

Before anyone thinks I'm evil, I will say we get on fine now.

sounds like you handled that situation very well, there were so few teaches at my school who were able to calmly deal with troublesome pupils Smile

Calm is more fun. They know they're in trouble when Miss goes quiet. Twisted Evil
