I've noticed that between 8 and 9 at night I seem to have anonymous guests to the forum - I can only ever trace them to the same company, so I wonder if the bots are trying to post? Bad luck, boys - it'll take more than a 'Click here for cut-price medical products' to spam my forum. Bad PC

EDIT: mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Much missed forum member
Whay is V1agra? Suspect why do I need it? Sometimes its spelt Vyagra, is this the same product. Currently listening to:

geek Theres a Ghost in my House: R Dean Taylor. geek

Where our love used to be.
Only shadows of the past I see,
Looking down in my coffee cup
I think I see your face looking up.
All alone in my gloom,
Your voice echoes through the room,
Theres a ghost in my house,
and I can't hide (in my house)...

Bots suck, except for Alan and Lucy. confused

Chatterbots are OK, but spambots aren't... mikeInside's forum seems to get a lot of them. I think it's something to do with the way he allows users to be created when they register on his forum. It also allows human spammers in quite easily. Mind you, he has over 20000 users on his forum so it must be pretty hard to manage them all.

You can always spot a spambot because they don't reply to existing topics - they have to start new ones. Some of the more sophisitcated ones at least try to start their posts with something like, 'Hey guys, what's up?' but you can still see through them.

EDIT: speaking of which, just spotted one on Mike's now - posting in Italian.

What are your most annoying spam messages?

I once had one from someone claiming to be a 26-yeard-old Russian woman who would be willing to make me a good wife! I also get a lot of fake bank letters and I've apparently won the Dutch National Lottery three times. I've even had the much-coveted Nigerian prince wanting to offer me a commission for 'looking after' his money.

Sometimes I get ads for \/14gra or knocked-off software too. The fake bank ones annoy me - if you hover your mouse over the links they give you, you can see they're not the right addresses.

My PC's been acting seriously weird lately and repeated scans by McAfee have found nothing. Today I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and it found no fewer than 13 pieces of spyware on my computer. Evil evil evil EEEEEVIL spyware. Dammit! Mad

Ahem. Anyway, I sat down right away and began to write a letter to Bill Gates, via the gift of rhyme...

:edit: From the thoughts of Cyber...

Dear Sir,

It's rare that I should even write
To someone such as you,
But to tell you of my sorry plight
was too hard not to do.

My ROM is mixed up with my RAM,
My hard disc must have slipped;
My inbox overflows with spam:
My PC's lid has flipped.

A Trojan worm (or whatever it's called)
Has crept into our midst, ere
My PC must be overhauled -
It's too old to run Vista.

My Start button stops dead in its tracks;
It's killed off all my joy,
And when all else fails, I launch attacks
Using Spybot Search and Destroy.

The damn thing's far too slow, you see,
It's truly starting to lumber!
Thirteen spybots on my PC:
A hardly lucky number.

Oh, Mr Gates, I hate to moan
About my PC's sad prowess
But leave my poor machine alone
To cope with its obsolete OS.

Don't move the goalposts, Mr G.,
By releasing something new
That hardly works (but looks PDG) -
For now, XP will have to do.
