i have the graphic novel of Guards! Guards! Cool

My mate at work has finally convinced our boss to let her read Hat Full of Sky to her class. At first she got all the groans about it being a female character but then when the kids realised how cool the Nac Mac Feegle were they jumped at the chance to listen to it.

My all-time favourite Discworld book? Hmm... difficult. It's a toss between Soul Music, Witches Abroad and Thief of Time. And even then I feel guilty that I've left out so many other good ones.

I liked Thud too. I thought it was very well timed and quite insightful, given the terrorist threats and the phobias that have overtaken us since Sept 11th. It also tries to put everything in perspective for both sides without naming names. Thud needs to be on the bookshelf of many a world leader. Someone may need to read it to George W Bush, of course, or put hyphens between the syllables for him at the very least.

Laughing You're not the first person to wax lyrical about who should play Rincewind...

The debates are fast and furious - which book should be made a film? Should a completely new script be written instead? Who should play the leading roles?

Everyone seems to think differently, although I've already got Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music on DVD as well as Hogfather (I thought they were all pretty good adaptations, too). The first two are animations which made it easier to do the magic effects. Why not get Dreamworks involved and do a CGI version?

Well David did a great job will albert, but i just cant see him as rincwind, i sort of picture him with a high pitched voice
(sort of like his voice actor from the old discworld game).

and i never seen the animeted movies, since your a true fan to the books would you say they are fun to watch Smile.

though your sim is awsome Very Happy, lets hope we get another magic hack in the near future Smile

Post some possible casting for some Discworld characters, with images...

Rules...

Post three possible candidates and state their strengths. Post or hotlink a picture so we can see who they are. Looks do make an impact.

Candidates for the role of Esmerelda 'Granny' Weatherwax

Stephanie Cole?

The official thread for all things Discworld! =D _40607754_cole203

Seen at her very grouchy and steely-eyed best as Diana Trent in Waiting for God, a very versatile and talented actress who has never quite received the full recognition she deserves. She has played some other irrascible figures, too. She also does mumsy but sharp-witted quite well, too, so could be a good Nanny Ogg.

Annette Crosbie?

The official thread for all things Discworld! =D Greyhounds_annette_150

Voice of Granny Weatherwax in the animated version of Soul Music and capable of a very sharp and authoritative performance, some might say the perfect Granny.

Sheila Hancock?

The official thread for all things Discworld! =D Celebgal_06_hancock

The perfect bone structure, another actress who doesn't get the recognition she merits, and an archetypal grumpy old woman. See the BBC series if you don't believe me.

In my opinion, Stephanie Cole should get the job. Having seen her performances in just about everything she's ever done I would cast her straight away, and I don't reckon it would be too difficult for her to get the hang of the part.

Maybe Sheila Hancock as Granny Weatherwax.

How about Helena Bonham-Carter as Magrat?

Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth) would be great as Nanny Og? Except Liz has bad health, June Whitfield did the voice in the animation, but I dont see her playing Nanny in the flesh. I think Paula Tilbrook who played Betty Eagleton (Seth's love interest) in Emmerdale would make a superb Nanny Og.

I think Elton John would make a great Rincewind (seriously).

IMHO Geraldine McNulty, she was the Doctor's Receptionist in My Hero would make a great Granny Weatherwax.

Food for thought, Ren. I can't see Mrs. Raven as Granny W though - she'd be a good witch but not Granny Weatherwax. What about Miriam Margolyes as Nanny Ogg? She'd rock!

Helena Bonham-Carter's a bit old to be Magrat, maybe someone like Emma Chambers (Alice in The Vicar of Dibley)?

Miriam Margoyles played Mrs Whiteadder in Blackadder, she would make a good Nanny Ogg, if she will wear the low cut gown, I always imagine Nanny as busty. What about Emma Watson as Magrat? I think Emma Chambers is getting a bit old too.

Sky One are doing another book adaptation at Christmas - The Colour of Magic - and guess who's playing Rincewind? David Jason!

Weird.

The Which Discworld Character Am I? Test

Your Score: Susan Sto Helit

You scored 92 intelligence, 60 morality, and 66 physical strength!

As Death's granddaughter (a long story, which you greatly dislike), you
inherited his ultimate practicality and lack of fear. In fact,
boogeymen and other childhood boggles fear YOU. Often assisted by the
Death of Rats and his raven, you manage to fix the Universe inbetween
working as a governness and educating the masses. The ultimate teacher.

Emma Watson has her own Cauldron, of course she's older now so I think she would make a great Magrat.

I dont know where my post of Paula Tilbrook has gone, I will ask Cyber to sort it out, She are good wiv Kompewters an stuff.

Hopefully it will work this time, for the Americans out there, Paula Tilbrook plays Betty Eagleton in Emmerdale, a British soap, she is chirpy , mumsy and quite loud (Betty not Paula). I nominate Paula for Nanny Ogg.

And Emma Chambers looking non-ditzy.

Your picture of Miriam Margoyles didn't load, but every reader will read something different into a character - what about Nursey from Blackadder?
